Spooner Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists Welcomes New Athletic Trainer to the Team; Lauren Geier, ATC/L Excited to Return to the North and Improve Community Wellness

Spooner, WI (July 15, 2014) – Spooner Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists (SPTRS) is proud to welcome their newest member and athletic trainer to the team. Lauren Geier, ATC/L is excited to return home to the North after spending 4 years in Tennessee completing her degree. With a special interest in sports and industrial medicine, Lauren’s enthusiasm and passion to treat the Spooner and surrounding communities has already greatly complimented the SPTRS family.

Lauren, an original native of Lakeville, MN, received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Lee University earlier this year. Living in TN during her education not only allowed her to experience other cultures and lifestyles, but also gave Lauren reassurance that up north is her true home. After visiting Spooner, WI, she fell in love with the small-town feel. “Spooner may be a smaller community, but it is a very involved and active one. There is always so much going on – the Savage Dash, logging competitions, etc. – I’m really looking forward to getting out there and helping make a difference; helping people of all ages improve their wellness,” said Geier.

As her title mentions, Lauren works frequently training local athletes to reach their peak performance, and rehabilitating them should an injury occur. She also has first aid training and is able to assist on the court or field at local sporting events. And although Lauren holds a special interest in manual therapy and sports medicine, she also has a passion for industrial medicine. In the month of June, Lauren underwent a 3-day educational course on how to treat the industrial worker, returning him/her back to employment safely and quickly. “Industrial rehabilitation is fascinating to me. The injured worker is much like the injured athlete. Instead of returning the person back to their previous level of sport, it’s returning them to work,” said Geier. Lauren's goal for each of her patients is to perform at the best of their abilities and return them to an active and healthy lifestyle.

To best serve her patients, friends and family, Lauren plans on pursuing her Master's in Kinesiology or Biomechanics within the next few years. In addition, she plans on becoming certified in the Graston Technique (a manual therapy technique that focuses on massage to identify areas of restriction and break up scar tissue), as well as become a licensed massage therapist. “Continuation education is a life-long goal for me. I want to get a lot of different certifications so I can help my patients get back to being healthy and stay there,” stated Geier.

SPTRS is proud to serve the North Woods 5+ years. Specializing in sports injuries, industrial medicine, athletic training, injury prevention education, and pre/post operative services, the staff prides themselves on providing the best quality treatment and care to their patients.
